Encyphir Risk Management

Internship Program

Learn the Craft Alongside Working Investigators

Encyphir's internship is built for students and aspiring private investigators who want real exposure to the work, not a coffee run. Interns shadow active casework, build research and reporting skills, and leave with a clearer picture of what a career in investigations actually looks like.

Apply for the Internship

Tell us a bit about yourself and what draws you to investigations. We review applications on a rolling basis and reach out when there is a fit with our current caseload and capacity to mentor.

  • Sit in on client briefings and post-case debriefs
  • Build a foundation toward a future PI license

How the internship works

Our internship is a structured, mentor-led program designed to give participants a realistic look at modern investigative work. Interns are paired with a senior investigator and work alongside the team on active matters, contributing to research, report drafting, and case preparation under direct supervision. The exposure spans several practice areas, from background investigations and surveillance to digital forensics and litigation support, so interns leave with a well-rounded view of the profession rather than a single narrow slice of it.

Interns do not perform regulated investigative activity that requires licensure. Instead, the program focuses on the skills that hold up across every case: clear writing, careful evidence handling, sound research methodology, and the judgment to know when to escalate. We treat the internship as an extended interview for both sides. If the fit is right, interns are well-positioned to continue with us as sub-contractors once they hold the appropriate state license.

We accept a limited number of interns per cohort to ensure each participant receives meaningful mentorship and real responsibility. Schedules are flexible and built around academic commitments where applicable. Most placements are part-time and span a single semester, with the option to extend.

What we look for

We look for candidates who write clearly, think carefully, and treat confidentiality as non-negotiable. Coursework or prior experience in criminal justice, law, cybersecurity, accounting, or a related field is helpful but not required. What matters more is curiosity, attention to detail, and a genuine interest in the craft of investigation.

If that sounds like you, submit the application above and we'll be in touch as opportunities open in your area.
