Encyphir Risk Management

Training Services

Training Built Around Real-World Threats.

Encyphir's training programs are custom-built for your people, your environment, and the situations you actually face. We cover critical incident response (AVOID, DENY, DEFEND), de-escalation, and California SB 553 workplace violence compliance.

Critical Incident & Active Shooter Training

AVOID. DENY. DEFEND.

Most active shooter courses use Run, Hide, Fight. We don't. Our security experts use AVOID, DENY, DEFEND. "Hide" is passive and can trap victims in a confined space. "Deny" is proactive: lock the door, turn off the lights, barricade with furniture.

We build custom tactical plans for schools, churches, healthcare facilities, and businesses. Training covers how to evade an active shooter, alert law enforcement quickly, and evacuate safely.

We also cover equipment readiness: go bags, vehicle safety, and first aid staging. Full First Aid and CPR certification is available for individuals and groups. For special events, we can provide trained paramedics and security staff. We also teach participants to recognize PTSD warning signs in the days after a critical incident.

De-Escalation Training

Custom Training for Your Environment.

De-escalation looks different across industries. What works for a trucking company dealing with road rage is different from what hospitality staff needs. We build training around real scenarios from your specific environment.

De-escalation is about how you respond to someone who is emotionally charged. The core skill is listening. We teach clients to stay calm, maintain consistent tone and posture, and avoid reacting in ways that escalate the situation. Some people will test your patience. We train for that too.

We teach clients to set clear limits, offer options, and avoid making promises they can't keep. Respecting personal space matters, especially with someone who is agitated or in an altered state. When you focus on what the person is feeling, you often reach the root of the problem faster.

SB 553 Workplace Violence Prevention

California Compliance, Built for Your Business.

California Senate Bill 553 requires employers to implement a workplace violence prevention program for most California businesses open to the public with 10 or more employees working at a time. The bill was enacted following a mass shooting incident at the Santa Clara Valley Transportation Authority in 2021.

Program Requirements

  • Prohibit employee retaliation for reporting workplace violence
  • Procedures for responding to reports of workplace violence
  • Employee training and communication requirements
  • Emergency response protocols
  • Workplace violence hazard assessments
  • Maintaining a violent incident log
  • Regulated by CAL OSHA under Labor Code 6401.9

We provide in-house training in workplace violence prevention, active shooter response, and de-escalation. We also review and build workplace violence programs to meet CAL OSHA requirements under Labor Code 6401.9. Every covered employer must establish, implement, and maintain a written violence prevention plan in all work areas at all times. That plan can be incorporated as a stand-alone section in your existing IIPP under Title 8, Section 3203.

Exemptions include: employees working remotely, workplaces not open to the public, healthcare facilities (which have their own workplace violence prevention program), and law enforcement and jail/prison facilities.
